I've just finished adding the first of our limited range of organic/wildcrafted perfume oil extraits to the shop, and I am so very excited to share them with everyone. When Moxie first began I succeeded in creating a wholly organic range, but I did eventually branch out into other materials. While I am happy and extremely proud of where that journey took me, I do still hold organic perfumery in high regard, and have been working on this little selection for quite some time. Some of our older customers may remember the names of the fragrances, as they are the self same ones that we began with nearly three years ago. Sassy, while one of my personal favourites, was cut from our catalogue and have now received a much needed facelift. And Principessa, which is so fresh and mouth watering it makes you smile just to sniff it, I'm just happy to have it kicking around the lab again. Packaging, ever the bane of my existence, is currently putting the brakes on my idea to bring back organic bath salts. And who knows, some free samples may find their way into orders from our shop until I get it all sorted.Depending on how this new line is received I have plans to roll out organic versions of both Glam and Deep Freeze, though at the moment our holiday offerings are top of the heap. Have had a small setback with a supplier which is causing a tiny bit of stress but otherwise my Christmas vision, as well as our planned anniversary scent (it's so lovely!) are on schedule and will be with all of you in the not too distant future.

We are flattered that the ultimate goth blog has deemed Jack 2010 'Halloween in a bottle'. Thanks Amy!

On another note I'm happy to report that with Halloween out of the way (at least from a perfumery point of view; our blends mature for ages before they actually hit the shelves) we are full steam ahead with some really interesting offerings for the holiday season, as well as a special limited edition fragrance for our third anniversary. As we started in January three years ago all the scents will be released together, but I am incredibly excited not only with the concept but also the results so far. For those who enjoy our more adventurous ideas, these next ones are for you.  I have put in a lot of time and research to get things just so, in my own weird way.

And even further along than that, well...you'll just have to wait and see. x

So very excited to announce our autumn offerings for this year. A humble two in number, but both so very different from one another yet so unique I'm proud to bits of both. And not in perfume sprays, but back to our original extraits, meaning a full 20% of pure oil, to last all day on the skin with minimal need for reapplication, plus none of the dryness that comes from alcohol based perfumes. It's so lovely to be working in my favourite medium again, the next round of limited editions I promise are going to be very, very special. But enough of all that, the descriptions:

The pumpkin king has landed! Our newest reformulation of this autumnal fan favourite Jack features a base of hay absolute, bourbon vanilla and amber infused musk with gently spiced sun ripened pumpkin and a trace of honey accord. Vegan safe.

Celebrate things that go bump in the night with Haunted, a dark, resinous scent with lashings of tobacco absolute, ambrette and vetiver lifted by fragrant honeysuckle, blood orange, smoked vanilla and a chill wind carrying the faint scent of long leaf pine.

Both are available in our shop, where I will soon also be adding organic perfume extraits (including some variations of fragrances from our current range) and restocking soap. Enjoy, spooky kids!

Today I’ll be soaping two of our most popular fragrances, Soleil and Dirty Hippie. The two scents couldn’t be more different but always rank high with customers. The other evening I got dragged into an age old question for soapers: “But does it have lye in it?”Anyone familiar with the soaping process will be rollling their eyes by now, as this is a question that crops up constantly, especially as people are looking for more natural alternatives to storebought tat. In the minds of some, lye, aka sodium hydroxide, aka caustic soda=BAD. However, the short answer is, you can’t make soap without it. Early forms of soap were being made by the Egyptians, and later the Babylonians using yes…lye, along with animal fats and aromatics like cassia. The process wasn’t refined until much later in Italy and Spain, where instead of animal fats, olive oil would have been used alongside more posh perfumery ingredients for the upper classes. The use of soap spread, and though every soaper has her own secret formula for the world’s best bar, there is no changing the saponification process. The good news is, for those of you who may now be horrified, that no lye remains in a finished bar of soap. What does remain is natural glycerine, which is great for the skin. I also use a process called superfatting in Moxie soaps to give them that much more richness, because my recipe is specifically geared towards the hard water conditions you find in and around London. So even if you are of a mind that ‘soap dries my skin’, perhaps you just haven’t found the right, handmade bar yet. Amazing how something with such humble beginnings can have such a lovely end result. No photo today, but perhaps will take some before and after pictures and show them off on a later post.
